Ending a long wait, BFI has invited bids for organizing an Indian professional basketball league.

In a circular published on the BFI website dated 26th December 2022, BFI has invited organizations/individuals to come on board as “techno-commercial partner for a period of five years extendable to intervals of five years” as mutually agreed.

Such organizations/individuals must involve “experts in the basketball game” with expertise in areas such as “coaching, player development and marketing”.

Currently, there is an Indian professional basketball league for men and women only in the 3×3 format called ‘3BL’. In the 5×5 version, an ‘Indian National Basketball League‘ for men is underway – but this is not a professional league as the players don’t earn salaries. Earlier this week, we also announced the pre-season dates of a private Indian professional basketball league for men called ‘Elite Pro Basketball League‘ scheduled for February 2023.
