The yet-to-be-named 5×5 Pro Basketball League 2022 will feature eight franchises in a “double round-robin league” format to be held across 25 days.

In a boost for Indian basketball players, the original promoters of the now-defunct UBA Pro Basketball League (which was India’s first private Pro Basketball League), have announced a new League to be held later this year.

Under the brand name of ‘All Air India Inc’, “the whole concept is to create an NBA-styled league to provide a platform for Indian talent.”

The eight teams are Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad.

Pro Basketball contracts for players & coaches

As per the initial presentation shared by the Company that has been accessed by Ekalavyas, in Season 1, players will be recruited in three categories: Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3.

Players will be awarded a three-year contract. The contract values will be based on their tier.

Player auctions will be held from Season 2.

Coaches will be hired on annual contracts.

Franchises names

The eight franchise names are Delhi Dominators, Chandigarh Conquerers, Lucknow Swarm, Jaipur Pink Pandas, Hyderabad Wildcats, Chennai Supernovas, Bengaluru Bulldogs and Mumbai Stars.

“Mega prize money”, championship trophy, MVP trophies and All-Star Game Trophies have been promised by the organizers.

“All Air India Inc. is thrilled to start this new chapter in the Indian sports domain. The Pro Basketball League 2022 will be a milestone for the development of athletes, coaches, and Indian Basketball as a whole. I welcome you to this unique experience, and hope our association will change the face of Basketball in India,” Sunny Bhandarkar, CEO, All Air India Inc.
