Enjoy being Indian Men’s Basketball Coach: Matic

Speaking at the post-game press conference after the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifying win over Palestine, Matic spoke about embracing challenges.

“I enjoy coaching in India. We are in a process…that we make a different basketball in India (sic). It is for me something that is a challenge. I tried it with Syria and succeeded… I tried with Iran I succeeded… I tried with Lebanon also. This [coaching in India] is a new project for me. [Because of] COVID little bit we have slowed down (sic)…without COVID we would have been in the [Asia Cup] Championship a lot more easily. But it’s okay. [COVID] has also given certain advantages…we know what we want [now].”

The coach also highlighted the talent of the next generation of Indian men’s basketball players.

Pranav Prince has NBA Potential

“We have talent… lots of talent. Half the young players you’ve seen today [in the game against Palestine]….yesterday [against Saudi Arabia] the injured player [Pranav Prince]…he’s NBA potential…an over 2 mtr (6’7”) guard. We have many good players who in the future can be a [strong] factor in Asian basketball.
