Bengaluru, 24th August 2019: Kochi Stars women and Punjab Steelers men have been crowned champions of the 3×3 Asia Quest 2019 – India Stop, aka the 3×3 National Championship.

Held at the Kanteerava outdoor courts in Bengaluru from 22nd to 24th August, the 3×3 National Basketball Championship 2019 featured 17 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams.

Kochi Stars‘ victory in the women’s section marked a successful comeback for 34-year-old Arjuna Awardee Geethu Anna Rahul. Her team bounced back from an opening league pool loss to put together a 5-0 run, including a 21-13 finale win over Maratha Yoddhas.

In the men’s section it was easy goings for the star studded Punjab Steelers, who stayed unbeaten through the league stages, before beating Bengaluru Bulls, 21-13, in the finals.

What’s Next?

Going by last year’s format, Kochi Stars and Punjab Steelers will now represent India in the next stage i.e. the Sub-Zones Quest Stop.The sub-zones tournaments (Quest Stops)are the second step of the system and the qualifiers to the Quest Final. The top teams from the respective sub-zones will compete at the FIBA Asia Quest Final, the date and venue of which are still to be decided.
