Kalamassery, 6th February, 2016: The Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA programme, a comprehensive school-based youth basketball programme has which started with the ‘Train the Trainers’ programme at Kochi on November 18th, 2016 at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Kochi with the active participation of 300 schools over Kerala culminated with the competitions held at the Rajagiri Indoor Stadium in Kalamassery.

Returning for the fourth consecutive year, the Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA programme nearly doubled its number of participating cities, expanding from eight to fourteen. The programme took place in Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Chennai, Delhi, Kochi, Kottayam, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Jaipur, Lucknow and Hyderabad.

The concept of ‘Loyalty points’ was introduced for the teachers this year. These points were awarded to them based on the participation of their students in the various programmes conducted by the Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA. Arup Viswanth of St. Philomina Public School in Elanji scored the highest points and took home the LED Tv. Ms. Anu from Devagiri Public School got a tablet device and Joshi from Kristu Jayanthi won the smart phone.

St Joseph’s High School, Pulinkunnoo boys defeated Girideepam Bethany, Kottayam 46-31 to secure the title while Little Flower HSS, Koratty girls bagged the title by defeating Shanthal Jyothi Public School, Muttom 41- 26 in the 5-on-5 competition.

Earlier in the boys’ division, St. Joseph’s stunned everyone by beating favourites St. Ephrem’s, Mannanam 40-34 while Girideepam beat MTHS 48-23.

In the 3-on-3 competition, in the boys Under-16 division, St. Ephrem’s HSS, Mannanam beat MTHS, Kurainoor 5-3 to win the title while in the girls’ division, Little Flower HSS, Koratty took the home title defeating St. Joseph’s Girls High School, Alappuzha 5-1.

In the 3-on-3 under 13 division, Assisi Vidyaniketan won the boys title by defeating Sacred Heart CMI Public School, Thevara 3-2 while in the girls’ division, Little Flower HSS, Koratty beat St. Joseph’s GHS, Alappuzha 4-2 to complete their double of the girl’s division titles.

A new competition called the Hot-Shot competition, where the students must score as many baskets as they can within 30 seconds from 5 spots, was introduced for the under-10, under-13 and the under-16 age groups for both the boys and the girls.

Little Flower HSS, Koratty bagged the ‘Best School’ award this year as well.
