MSRIT centre Sowkin Shetty was a beast down low against PESIT

Bengaluru, 25th January 2017:  The 1st Malleshwaram Cup Inter-College Invitational Floodlight Basketball Championship for Men and Women witnessed Day 2 action today, with Mount Carmel College women and MSRIT men posting wins.

The Championship is being held at the Bharath Sports Union courts, Malleshwaram grounds and being organised by Dr CN Ashwathnarayan Foundation in association with Atsiy! Sports and Malleshwaram’s three iconic clubs YMMA, Beagles and Bharath Sports Union.

MSRIT Men stay undefeated

MSRIT college entered Day 2 having won its opening match yesterday against Presidency College. Today, it took on PESIT, another winning team from yesterday. The match started off neck and neck with MSRIT leading 15-13 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, MSRIT continued to slowly build on its lead, as it went into the second half with a 4 point cushion, 34-30. For PESIT, Akshat and Dhruv knocked down some big threes to keep the game close. However, MSRIT centre Sowkin Shetty and swingman Anmol Bhandari did just enough offensively to keep PESIT at bay.

The 2-0 MSRIT is now through to the semifinals as Pool A toppers. Meanwhile, PESIT will now face Presidency College on 27th January in their final league match. The winner of this game will progress to the final four as Pool A’s second best team.

Mount Carmel College bt Sindhi College 37-27

After its opening match loss to RV College yesterday, Mount Carmel College bounced back with an important 37-27 Pool A victory over Sindhi College today. Mount Carmel has now ended the league stages with a 1-1 record, while Sindhi College will need to win big against RV College to secure a place for itself in the semifinals.
