*Kerala State to celebrate 125th year of basketball and release Basketball Calendar 2016*
Thiruvananthapuram, 16th July, 2016: The School Season of Kerala starts with the Mother Shanthal Trophy South India Inter-School Basketball at Thodupuzha from 27th July to 29th July 2016, which will take place at Shanthal Indoor Stadium in Muttam, Thodupuzha.
The 125th Year of Basketball
This year, to mark the 125th Year of Basketball, the state has already started planning to celebrate the 21st of December, 2015, with a “1 Million Hoopathon” a basketball shooting competition. This will be done by inaugurating 1000 Basketball Courts across the State, by seeking the support of Veteran Basketballers, YMCAs, State Youth Departments and also by carrying out the plan to popularize the shorter version of Basketball – 3 on 3 Kids League for the Under 10 and Under 13 age groups (Boys and Girls).
Upcoming Events in the Calendar
Basketball Federation of India is relaunching its school league with 1 Lakh Prize Money this year . Kerala is One of the State Selected by BFI.
Kozhikode University will be conducting South Zone Inter University Basketball at Kozhikode in the 2nd Week of December.
The State Youth Championship is coming up at the twin Indoor Basketball Courts of Little Flower HSS, Koraty from August 12th to 16th. The 60th Kerala State Senior Basketball Championship will feature this year in Manjeri, Malapuram, in 3rd week of November . The Kerala State Schools have not confirmed their calendar till now and the same goes for the universities.
National Schools will participate in the U-14 and U-19 competitions at Chhattisgargh during the 1st and 2nd week respectively, while the U-17 competition will take place in Andhra Pradesh during the last week.
