Hyderabad: South Central Railway dominated the finals in all the 3 quarters except the 4th quarter, but held onto its lead to be crowned Champions of the Annual Hyderabad Basketball League Championship 2015.
In the 1st quarter, SCR played a fast paced game and were scoring swiftly through Liju Abraham and Mallaiah as the Army Ordinance Corps (AOC) defense was too weak to take a comfortable 23 – 12 lead at end of 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, both teams played a slow defensive game and scored 10 points apiece as SCR was comfortably placed 33 – 22 at half time. In the 3rd quarter, AOC missed many easy shots which resulted in fast breaks which Naveen and Liju easily converted into baskets to score 23 points in the 3rd quarter. AOC aided by Irfan’s 2 3-pointers scored 17 points, as SCR was leading AOC 56 – 39. In the 4th quarter, AOC switched to full court man-to-man marking and with some tight defense restricted the scoring spree of SCR as they scored only 11 points. On the other hand, AOC scored 21 points briskly which made the last 5 minutes very interesting, but the experienced SCR players held onto the lead to finally win 67 – 60.
South Central Railway 67 (Liju Abraham – 20; Naveen – 14; Murli – 8; Nihal – 7; Mallaiah – 6) beat Army Ordinance Corps 60 (Jaleel – 20; Sachin – 9; PK Kullu – 8) Half time: 33 – 22.
