Earlier this month, we brought you the news that two of India’s best basketball players, Amritpal Singh and Amjyot Singh Gill, have signed professional contracts to play in the BJ Challenge Summer League in Japan. The two young cagers are currently in Japan playing with Hyogo Impulse, a team based in Hyogo, Japan.
This is the first time Indian basketball players will be playing professional basketball in Japan. Their managers, Himamshu Dabir (based out of India) and Rohit Bakshi (based out of Japan), made this move possible along with the help of internationally certified FIBA Agent Toshi Koga of Japan. In a statement the three representatives jointly stated:
“This is just the beginning, right now Indian basketball is relatively unknown across India and the world, but with Amjyot and Amritpal going to Japan, they will show that India has the talent to compete against the top international players across Asia. We are sure that they will be successful and be trailblazers for the current and future generations of Indian basketballers.”
On the day before these two star players left for Japan, they spoke to Ekalavyas about the opportunity, what they are expecting in Japan and their message to young Indian ballers, among other topics. Watch the interviews of these two young cagers, who along with Satnam Singh Bhamara, have made this month a very eventful one for the Indian sports community.
