Press Release, Jalandhar, Punjab: In the Indian Basketball Players Association (IBPA)’s first joint Advisory & Executive Committee meeting held on 21st June 2015, the IBPA logo was officially released by its Chairman Sh. Abbas Moontaisar, and received by the President and other members of the IBPA.
The meeting was held at the Golf Club, Punjab Armed Police (PAP) in Jalandhar and was presided by the President of IBPA Sh. Sajjan Singh Cheema, where he gave a special welcome to the Chairman of IBPA Sh. Abbas Moontaisar, the senior Arjun Awardee.
The meeting also comprised the august presence of other renowned celebrities of Indian basketball:
Sh. Surinder Kumar Kataria, Sh. Ajmer Singh, Ms. Suman Sharma, Sh. Parminder Singh (All Arjun Awardees), Sh. Ram Kumar (Dhayan Chand Awardee), Sh. Paramjit Singh (Captain of Indian Team at Moscow Olympic -1980), Sh. Jayasankar Menon (Asian All Star) and Ms. Divya Singh (Former Women Team Captain), among others.
Sh. Sajjan Singh informed that the IBPA has been formed to look after the welfare of the players, so to begin with, an insurance scheme for junior players will be introduced to ensure that the career of the player is not short lived, or if the player meets with a grave injury and his/her sport career is jeopardized, he/she should be adequately compensated through this initiative to lead a dignified life.
The Chairman Sh. Abbas Moontasir proposed to organize a “Dribblelathon” at Delhi during the month of July-2015, where young aspirants get the rare opportunity to dribble with the legends and also get a chance to interact in an open environment.
Members also brought to light the troubling issue of some of the legends of the game leading a life of oblivion; some are even finding it difficult to meet up with mundane affairs. IBPA vowed to support those legends through its collective efforts and ensure that an avenue is created to help them lead respectable lives. “Other welfare initiatives will be announced from time to time”, IBPA founding member Jayasankar Menon said via his press release.

The Indian Basketball Players Association (IBPA) itself was officially launched on 7th June 2015 with its first meeting held at Indian Medical Association Hall, Delhi.
