Babykutty, 22 March 2015: Defending champions Kerala State Electricity Board and Customs and Central Excise Kochi retained the women’s and men’s crowns respectively as they beat Kerala Police 56-26 and in men beat KSEB 64-49 in the final of the  14th Kerala Champions Trophy Basketball Championship for Inter-Club Men and Women teams organised by Kasargod District Basketball Association under the auspices of Kerala Basketball Association held here at the Rajas High School, Nileshwar.

In the men’s final, Customs, which had come without Subash Shenoy and Eudrick Perera fielded an array of injured players but still proved that they are a Champion outfit of Kerala as they beat KSEB 64-49. Monish Wilson who played with an injured ankle top scored with 19 points followed by Basil Philip with 10 points.  KSEB could well be blamed for missing out on a golden opportunity. It led almost till the 3rd quarter but did not utilise its speed and fastbreck game but insisted on a Set game plan till the end which allowed Customs to take the title and qualify for the Federation Cup.

Earlier on Saturday, in late semi-final matches, Kerala police women defeated Providence College, Kozhikode (56-38) to make the final while in the men’s section Customs  and Central Excise had an easy victory over Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur 63-32 to ensure the final clash with KSEB Men.
