Babykutty: Thanks to James Mathew and his company My One Shot, a charity organisation, spending more than 7 lakh INR, St Mary’s High School in the coastal area of Chellanam has received a new basketball court. The school which renders laudable service in this land of fisherman and farmers have been sub district champions in football, shuttle badminton, lawn tennis, taekwondo and swimming, runners up in Kho Kho, hockey, Table tennis, and Handball.

The court was inaugurated  by Scott Flemming, the Indian Head Basketball Coach from USA by giving the first pass to Subash J Shenoy, the ex-international basketball player who then made the first basket on the newly built basketball court.

The function was a colourful affair presided by Rev Fr Franciss Kurisinkal and was attended by a large number of pupils of the school and residents of Chellanam. Also gracing the occasion were Jabeena Abraham, Director, Nava Nirman School Vaazhakala, Prakash Mathew, President Sports Director YMCA Fort Kochi, KA Salim, Secretary Ernakulum District Basketball Association and P J Sebastian, Head Coach Kerala State Basketball Men Team.

The School also felicitated miss Daniella Elizabeth who is the member of the Gold Medal Team which participated in the Sub Junior Basketball Championship at Nasik recently along with the football Coach KA Nazar. Zilla Panchayath Member K J Leenus and Mattancherry AEO Ajith Thampy also spoke on the occasion. The function concluded with a vote of thanks from the Head Master E V John Jude.

All those present thanked the efforts of Amercelin Louis, the Physical Education Teacher of the School who made this dream come true. As part of the events, Scott Fleming ran a basketball workshop for students along with the international player Basil Philip. An exhibition match was also played after the court was inaugurated.

About Scott Flemming Indian Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach

Scott Flemming is currently the Head Coach of Indian Senior Men’s National Basketball Team. He brings along with him over 30 years of collegiate and professional coaching experience in the United States. Prior to joining BFI, Flemming was the Assistant Coach of the Texas Legends in the NBA Development League, where he often served as the acting Head Coach, leading both current and future NBA players. He has also served as the Men’s Head Coach and Athletic Director at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio. During his years with the Cougars, Flemming compiled an overall record of 397-226 (.64 winning percentage) – the most wins of any coach in the program’s 40-year history
