Babykutty: The Basketball Federation of India along with Kerala Basketball Association will be conducting an technical course –FIBA Level 1 Certification Course for Coaches, in Kochi, at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium  from 6-10 December 2014. This will be the first time that FIBA will be conducting this course in Kerala.

Following his course in Pune, Nelson Isley, a renowned FIBA instructor, will put 35 coaches through their paces in a beginners course (Level 1) to help promote youth basketball in the country as well as in Kerala. FIBA is the independent, international association that governs the game of basketball around the world. FIBA is the only basketball body recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

10 or more coaches from Kerala will benefit from this 5-day Certification Course which will combine on-court practical sessions with theoretical sessions. Demonstrations involving players (between the ages of 18 and 28) will help the expert coach highlight the theories that he teaches throughout the course.

It is noted that as per FIBA guidelines starting in 2016 or 2017, no coach will be given a FIBA coaching license without at least passing a level 2 course. So this FIBA Coaching License will become mandatory to coach at the International Level.
