Mumbai, November 25, 2014: Boys and girls team from Lilavati Podar School won their opening fixtures on Day 1 of Premier League of Indian School Basketball League (ISBL) organized by Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and Maharashtra Basketball Association (MBA) in collaboration with IMG Reliance (IMG R) at Dominic Savio School in Andheri East on Tuesday.
Of the three matches played in the day, first one was a walkover in favour of Hansraj Morarji boys as their opponents DJ Doshi School didn’t turn up for the match. This was followed by LIlavati Podar’s decimation of Dominic Savio. The Santacruz school beat hosts 31-06 riding on Siddhant’s 16 points.
Then the girls’ team from Lilavati Podar took the court to repeat the feat of their boys side. In a low scoring fixture, Podar beat Divine Child 18-04.
After the successful conclusion of the college league in the city, the school league beginning today has ten teams in boys and girls category divided in two pools respectively. The winners from each city in the Premier League will move to the national championships in New Delhi.
Besides the winning team will get richer by Rs. 15,000 while runners-up would take home Rs. 10,000. The winners at the National Championships will get a complete refurbishment of basketball court in their school while runners-up will get Rs. 75,000 towards basketball infrastructure development.
