Babykutty: Host Pushpagiri Medical College took the men’s title while Amritha Medical College won all their five-team round robin league matches to secure the women’s title in the 9th Mar Theophilos Trophy Inter Medicos Basketball Tournament at Pushpagiri floodlit stadium in Thiruvalla on Sunday.

In the final, Pushpagiri, after an evenly poised first half score of 21-21  raced away in the second half to a 62-51 win Amala Medical College. Firoz top scored for the winners with 18 points, Vivek had 16 and Kenneth scored 15, while for Amala, Kevin top scored with 24 points.

Earlier in a men’s division I late match on Saturday, Pushpagiri Medical College defeated  Jubilee Memorial Medical College, Thrissur 45-6, while in the morning Amala Medical College defeated Kottayam Govt Medical College 33-22 to make the final.

In the women’s division, on late Saturday, Pushpagiri tasted its first victory by beating Karakonam Somervel Memorial CSI Medical College 19-17 and on Sunday morning Amala defeated Karakonam Somervel Memorial CSI Medical College 24-21 to came as second in the round robin.
