Babykutty: Defending champion Thiruvananthapuram will take on runners up Palakkad women in the  finals of the 59th Kerala State Senior Basketball Championship  at the Carmel Club temporary indoor stadium in Aluva.

In the women’s semifinal Thiruvananthapuram defeated Thrissur 65-50 after leading 30-23  at half time. For Thiruvananthapuram, international Jeena P S was the top scorer with 23  points followed by Merlin Baby  making 16  points. For Thrissur, Rojamol and Anu Thomas scored 13 points each. In the second semifinal, the experienced Palakkad team (comprising players from Kerala Police) were made to huff and puff in their 58-53 semifinal win against the younger outfit of  Ernakulum, after trailing 24-29 at the half time. Neenumol was the top scorer for Palakkad with 16 points and for Ernakulum Annat George scored 15 and Ashy Mathew had 12.

In the two men’s semifinals it was a rather easy walk over for defending champion Ernakulum (comprising the players from Central Excise, Kochi) and Thiruvananthapuram (comprising a majority of players from KSEB Thiruvananthapuram) as they beat Kollam 78-36 and Palakkad 61-38 respectively.

Off the court, Kerala Basketball Association will honour eight of their internanational players who represented India in various age categories this year. KBA will also honour the Kerala State U-16 boys and girls teams who secured the silver medal at this year’s Youth National Basketball Championship held in Chandigarh.
