This July 2014, YWTC (Yes We Too Can) Charitable Trust (Chennai)  in partnership with the Choice International (UK) are delivering a seven-day Wheelchair Basketball (WCBB) and Boccia training workshop at the Jawaharlal Nehru Multisport Indoor Stadium in Chennai, India with the support of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu.

This workshop launches following the success of previous workshops held in December 2013 and in February 2014, followed by continuous training sessions which led to the development of the Chennai Eagles WCBB team.

Over the seven days from the 21st to 27th of July, Choice International and YWTC aim to train and develop not only players, but also Trainers, Coaches and Referees who can become future leaders for sustainable development in disability sports in India.

This workshop will bring together the expertise of:

  • Mr Mark Walker, International WCBB Coach from Australia;
  • Mr. C. Jayasankar Menon, Chief Manager, Indian Bank, Asian All Star Basketball Player and Former Indian team Captain.
  • Ms. Madhavi Latha, President of YWTC, National Paralympic Swimmer and sports development leader in India;
  • Mr. Aram Voerman, WCBB Player and Trainer from the Netherlands (TBC)
  • Mr. Jayant Mistry, WCBB and Wheelchair Tennis Player, Coach and Mentor from the UK (TBC)
  • Mr. Manoj Soma, CEO of Choice International, WCBB player, WCBB Club Classifier and Boccia Community Leader from the UK.

Activity Plan:

  • Basic and Advanced skills training including; pushing for fitness, agility, speed workouts, ball handling, court awareness, and mental skills in Wheelchair Basketball.
  • Community Leadership and Coaching in WCBB (Grade one training -two days)
  • Impairment and Classification training.
  • Boccia Community Leadership Training
  • Referees (half day conversion course)

Anyone with an interest in Wheelchair Basketball, Boccia or disability sports in general is welcome to join the workshop. With the intention to promote sports for the people with disabilities, we are not going to charge any entry fee for this workshop. And also Participants will get Participation Certificates. We have limited seats with free accommodation and food. Hence it will be better to register with us for this workshop as early as possible to avail this facility.
