Mounts BC and Beagles BC won their respective semifinal matches to set up a rematch in the women’s finals of the JSC State Level Basketball Championship 2014 that is underway at the Madhavan Park Courts in Bengaluru. While Mounts had little trouble in defeating Indiranagar BBC, Beagles won a tense match against hosts JSC by a single point, 44-43. Hosts JSC had a chance to win the match, but missed two crucial freethrows in the finals seconds to grant Beagles the win.

In the men’s section, favourites Vijaya Bank is through to the finals after beating Young Orions  72-62, as Young Orions’ Agu’s valiant 43 points went in vain. Meeting them in the finals, will be Corps of Military Police (CMP) that easily beat Koramangala BC 51-36, with Nesa top scoring for CMP with 23 points.

Late last night, Koramangala BC had upset HAL 62-59 in the quarterfinals to make it to the last four.

About JSC Basketball Championship 2014

The Jayanagar Sports Club (JSC) Basketball Championship 2014 for Men and Women is being held from 13th to 22nd June. Twenty-two teams all across Karnataka have confirmed their participation in this state level tournament that is being played during the day and also under floodlights at the Madhavan Park courts in Jayanagar 3rd block, Bengaluru. The teams in this competition are vying for the JSC Basketball Cup accompanied by grand prize money. There will also be awards handed out to the best players in the men’s and women’s sections.

To encourage more participation and crowd presence, all the matches will be held over two consecutive weekends (13th to 15th June and 20th to 22nd June). Additionally, a three pointer contest and a skills challenge open to the participants of all teams will be conducted alongside the main tournament.

On the opening day (Friday, 13th June 2014), after the conclusion of the morning matches, a grand inauguration ceremony will be held in the evening at 6:00 pm with Shri Vijayakumar, MLA, Jayanagar Constituency as the honourable chief guest. Also gracing the occasion will be Shri K Govindraj, Member of Legislative Council & President, Karnataka Olympic Association and Shri S Nagaraju, Corporator, BBMP. The ceremony will be presided over by Shri Atul Gurjar, President of JSC.

This is a league cum knockout tournament. League matches are being played in the mornings and evenings starting tomorrow, 13th June (Friday) and conclude on 15th June (Sunday). Knockout matches will be held on the last three days, from 20th to 22nd June, in the evening session only. The morning session matches will commence from 7:00 am onwards and evening matches will be played from 4:30pm onwards.

Men Teams: Pool 1- Vijaya Bank, Koramangala, BSNL, Rajkumar; Pool 2- Beagles, YMMA, Young Orions, PPC; Pool 3- HAL, Orions, Sakarnagar, NGV; Pool 4- CMP, JSC, Creative, Bosch

JSC was founded in 1977 with the objective of introducing children to the growing sport of basketball. Subsequently, the Sri Manjunath Sports Development trust was formed with the support of well-wishers and its alumni in order to broaden the facilities of JSC and to expand its activities across other sports as well.
