[Babykutty] Press Release, Kozhikode, 11 June 2014: Basketballers of Kozhikode bid a tearful adieu to C Subramanium who passed away on Sunday night at the age of 63 in Kozhikode. A National Basketball Referee, sculptor and Coach of Providence GHSS who retired as ASI, traffic police, Mr Subramaniuim departed gracefully for his eternal abode leaving behind his wife Kamala and his sons, Sumitraj (Police AR Camp), Sreejith (Basketball Coach, Sadbhavana World School) and Sunjith (Reserve Bank of India)
The mortal remains were cremated at Mavoor Road crematorium in Kozhikode. People from various walks of life thronged in groups to pay their last respects to the departed soul. Dignitaries included Mr K Manohara Kumar, President, Kerala Basketball Association, Mr C P Sreedharan, President, Kozhikode Basketball Association, basketball officials, coaches and players, besides his own trainees and students who poured in in large numbers.
Mr Subramanium was instrumental in grooming international players like Elizabeth Hillarios and Mayooka K T, and dozens of State Players during his tenure of 8 years as basketball coach at Providence GHS Kozhikode. He saw to Providence GHS clinching the winners’ trophy in all the categories: sub-junior, youth, junior and senior divisions in the Kozhikode District Championships in the year 2009-10.
