Jaipur, 10/4/14: Punjab and Indian Air Force men have bounced back from opening day losses to register their first wins in the 17th All India Advani Memorial Basketball Tournament (AIAMBT) underway at Malviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur. In the women’s section, legendary former India captain, coach and internationally certified referee Shiba Maggon came out of retirement to top score in Delhi’s win over Eastern Railway Kolkata with 14 points. She was ably assisted by Prashanti Singh who also registered 14 points in their early morning win. Delhi will now play against defending champion Southern Railway in the final league match tomorrow morning that will decide the top team from women’s Pool A. After its second straight loss, Eastern Railway has been knocked out of this year’s AIAMBT.
Strong contenders Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) too shook off yesterday’s loss against South East Central Railway (SECR) Bilaspur by dismantling Rajasthan 57-20. KSEB will now wait for tomorrow’s final league match between SECR and Rajasthan to conclude in order to find out if it will go through to the final four.
In late evening matches, defending champion ONGC and Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) won their second straight games to go atop Pool B and Pool A respectively.
