Babykutty/Press Release/Kochi, February 8, 2014: The Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA program has received an immense response in Kochi with spirited participation of 1000 children and active support of schools and parents.

A city championship in different age groups and disciplines was held to mark the culmination of the first phase of the Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA Program in Kochi. The presence of NBA Legend Muggsy Bogues added lustre to the event.

In the 5 on 5 City Championship, Rajasree Public School took the boys title defeating Sacred Heart CMI Public School Thevara 64-42 while Little Flower HSS from Koratty took the girls title defeating Christ Vidhyanikethan Irinjalakuda 43-13.

In the 3 on 3 competition in boys under 16 division CMI School took the title defeating Rajasree Public School (6-4) while in the Girls Division YMCA Kottayam took the title defeating Christ Vidyanikethan Irinjalakuda (9-5)

In 3 on 3 under 13 division Lajanth Alapuzha took the boys title defeating SH CMI School Thevara (4-2) in boys section while in girls Little Flower Koratty defeated its after school division (7-5) to claim the Title.

A new competition ‘Hot  Shot’ was also introduced for the first time to the state of Kerala. In this event, participants have to score as many baskets as possible within 30 seconds from 5 spots. As many as 450 students took part in the preliminary rounds from which 60 were selected in total from under 10, under 13 and under 16 from both boys and girls category.

In Under 10 Division


  • Winner: Rasheen of Lajanath came victorious with 23 points
  • Runner up: Nandu Don from Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan Palluruthy


  • Winner:  Ann Paulose from Sacred Heart after school section with 11 points
  • Runner Up: Rebecca Mathew from Lourdes Public School Kottayam with 10 points

In under 13


  • Winner: Shaun Louis from SH CMI Thevara 16 points
  • Runner up: Kevin Jones from ST Pauls Kalamasserry 12 points


  • Winner  Jayalakshmi St Josephs GHS Alapuzha 21 points
  • Runner Up  Aleena Paul from Christ Vidhyanikethan 8 points


In under 16


  • Winner Jovel Jose from Navanirman School Vazhakala 19 points
  • Runner Up Joshua George from Sacred Heart CMI School 8 points


  • Winner Neha Mathew from Gregorian scored 17 points
  • Runner Aleena Seby from Little Flower Koratty 14 points

The trophies and certificates were distributed by Muggsy Bogues. Also present on the occasion were President Kerala Basketball Association R Manohara Kumar and the Principal of CMI Public School Thevra Fr Savians.
