Goa 22nd January 2014: The Indian men and women basketball contingents will be participating in the 3rd Lusofonia Games 2014 being held in Goa at the Goa University Complex, Taleigao from 23rd to 27th January 2014. Six teams are taking part in the men’s competition, and have been divided into two groups. In the women’s section, there are only four teams in the fray. Indian men are placed in Group B with Angola and Guinea Bissau as their opponents, while Indian women will face Angola, Mozambique and Macau China.
The Indian Men’s Basketball team will face Guinea Bissau in its opening match on 23rd January 2014, while the women are pitted against Macau China on 24th January 2014.
Lusofonia Games is a multinational multi-sport event organized by the ACOLOP (Associação dos Comités Olímpicos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa). It involves those countries belonging to the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries) and also others where there are significant Portuguese communities.
Prior to landing in Goa for the Lusofonia Games 2014, the men and women contingents trained at Don Bosco Matunga, Mumbai through sessions conducted by the Basketball Federation of India and supported by the Sports Authority of Goa from 10th to 18th January 2014. BFI will also be providing technical support to the Lusofonia Games 2014 for the basketball event.
