Basketball Coach Sachin Belvadi has been conferred with the “KARNATAKA BHUSHAN” Award -2013”, for his contributions to society in the field of sports (basketball), instituted by the Karnataka Samskruthika Academy.

About Coach Belvadi

Coach Belvadi works as a Senior Public Relations Asst. at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Jakkur, Bangalore where eminent scientists like Bharat Ratna Prof. CNR Rao, Prof. Roddam Narasimha and many distinguished scientists do their research work.

Mr Belvadi was recognized for his basketball coaching services to more than 2000 players in his spare time. As a coach of the sub-junior (u-13) Karnataka State girls’ basketball team, Mr Belvadi can be credited with reinstating Karnataka on the national basketball map by fetching three consecutive national medals in the year 2010 (Silver), 2011 (Silver) and 2012 (Bronze) at the Sub Juniors National Basketball Championship conducted by the Basketball Federation of India. Mr Belvadi enjoys the distinction of being probably the only Karnataka State Coach to have won three national medals consecutively in the National Championships.

He has worked an an assistant coach of the national women’s under-16 (youth) basketball team in 2012. He also actively coaches at the college level and has been coaching at the local Bangalore club Bharath Sports Union since 2010. Prior to coaching, Mr Belvadi was a former member of the Karnataka Sr. State team.

In 2011, Mr Belvadi was also the recipient of the prestigious Kempegowda award in recognition for exemplary contribution and service to society in the field of basketball.

Says Coach Belvadi on receipt of the award, “Certainly, these awards will only motivate me to continue developing the game of basketball from the grassroots level and serve the society in my particular field of talent and bring laurels to the State of Karnataka.”

About the Award

Karnataka Samskruthika Academy recognized and rewarded achievers who have continued to work relentlessly in their respective field of specialization whether academics, sports, performing arts, business, industry, social work etc. It aimed to award such unsung heroes from all sections of society, who have gone ahead and displayed exceptional capabilities in various fields without any self-interest.

The Awards ceremony was held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Nayana Sabhangana Kannada Bhavan, JC Road, Bangalore and the awards were given to 20 people totally in the following categories –
Knowledge, Innovation, Education, Social Service, Sports, Music & Culture.

Shree Shree Shantaveera Mahaswamiji of Kolada Mutt and Former Minister Dr.Mumtaz Ali Khan did the honors of giving the awards.
