Host team Gujarat had a forgettable opening match, losing to powerhouse Southern Railway 88-34.

Press Release/Ahmedabad, 5th Jan 2014: ONGC have won two in a row defeating Tamil Nadu (IOB) 75-58 in their second league match of the 28th Federation Cup National Basketball Championship being held at the YMCA International Centre in Ahmedabad. ONGC with more than half of its contingent having international experience always had the upper hand going into the match. In the initial minutes, both teams were matched basket for basket and IOB, with its set play made life difficult for ONGC. IOB even managed to take the 45-43 lead in the third quarter, when ONGC put on their thinking cap and turned things around in the fourth quarter. Vishesh Brighuvanshi scored 20, Amritpal Singh 16 and Trideep Rai finished with 15 for ONGC. Amjyot Singh, Prasanna and Pratham Singh scored 17, 13 and 12 respectively for IOB.

The host team Gujarat women faced an 88-34 defeat at the hands of the
much stronger Southern Railways. Both Appoorva M and Raja Priya
Darshini had a 54% field goal percentage. Appoorva M scored 16 points
and Raja Priya Darshini finished with 15. Amita scored three 3
Pointers for Southern Railways. With a comfortable 53-18 lead at the end
of half time, Southern Railways was seen testing their bench strength
in the second half. Dhara P scored 12 and Ruhi S finished with 8 points
for team Gujarat.

Chhattisgarh women beat Punjab 90-54. Anju L, Kavita and Anjana Daisy
scored 19, 16 and 12 points respectively for Chhattisgarh. Nagma
finished with 16 points for Punjab. Madhu K scored 34, Shivangi S 18 ,
Neha J 12 and Delhi Women beat Karnataka 74-37.

Railways (Northern Frontier Railway) men came back strong defeating
Chhattisgarh (Bhilai Steel Plant) 84-63 after losing to Uttarakhand
(ONGC) 76-52 on the first day. Jaskaran S scored 16, Vinod S 15 and Sunil K finished with 14 for Northern Frontier Railway.

Rajasthan (Sikar District) got the better of Kerala (Central Excise)
79-64. Hirendra S scored 28 points, Prashant S 22 and Sharad finished
with 10 for Rajasthan. Bony M scored 21, Abhilash T 15 and Basil P 11
for Kerala (Central Excise)
