Kollam men (in dark grey) overcame a spirited Palakkad side in a high decibel match up

‘Elevate Sports’ Daily Wrap

They shouted, cursed, ranted, pushed and hollered; but they also entertained. The final Pool A super-league match between Kollam and Palakkad was one of the more enjoyable games of basketball to be witnessed in the last few months. Coming into this encounter, both these teams had already qualified for the knockout stages, but that didn’t prevent them from going at each other from the opening whistle. Palakkad and Kollam feature players from the Kerala Police, and whatever else we might conclude, one thing is certain: the policing in Kerala is in very robust hands. No call of the referee went uncontested, no out of bounds decision was accepted readily. In all of this, the two teams managed to sneak in enough basketball for the final scoreline to read 85-69 in favour of Kollam. And yes, a fight did break out between the teams, and two players were disqualified.

With the league stages coming to a dramatic close, we can all strap in for some evenly contested quarterfinal matches. In the men’s section, last year’s winners Ernakulam and Trivandrum will hope to continue their undefeated run from the league rounds. Among the women, Palakkad and Trivandrum will look to do the same.
